Stuart Dybek
I just got back from Stuart Dybek's reading and to be honest here, I was so bored. He read some of his stories from his new novel Paper Lantern and it was awful. His reading almost put me to sleep because he read in such a monotone voice and it wasn't a very interesting. I was hoping he would talk to us about how he got to where he is and how he became successful and whatnot, but all he did was just read a few of his stories to us. Some of them were very sexual and I felt very odd and uncomfortable because most of the audience was like 70 years old and then here I was and it was just weird. Apparently he writes very dirty and sexual stories from what I have heard tonight. Although it was boring, I had nothing better to do so my friend and I went.

I'm happy you got a chance to go even if you didn't enjoy it. I'm not crazy about fiction readings either since you usually have someone who isn't trained to perform, reading aloud something that was meant to be read on page. I'm surprised there wasn't a better Q & A sessions though. Anyways you got extra credit and you can tell any pretentious English people you meet that you heard Stu Dybek read. ;)
